I have an excuse..

I have an excuse for not updating this blog regularly.. :D We are relocating to Bangalore and we are very excited about it. So, all my craft time is eaten by pack-and-move time! But, that doesn't mean I haven't started a zillion projects as if I don't have enough on the needles already. These days, I seem to prefer to start projects than finishing them. sigh. Enough with the rant already, huh?

Its funny how the creative mojo strikes you at the most inopportune moment. I have the entire house to pack and move..but, what do I do over this weekend.. I make a purse following no pattern.. I like to make things my the seat of my pants! I get the most satisfaction by the design-as-you-go method..more than when I follow a pattern..so, I made this purse/clutch thingie for a dear friend at work over the weekend. The idea struck me while trying to pack away my yarn stash and craft supplies. (Do you guys see the irony?!) I did not fight the urge to make the purse immediately. So, chucked the idea to pack the craft supplies and got to work on the purse.

So, I fished out my Harmony stitch guide from its packing and zeroed-in on this lovely slip-stitch pattern and knit an 8inch X 8 inch outer shell using fingering weight acrylic on 3mm and steam-blocked it to open up the pattern. I seamed the sides using single crochet stitches on the inside. Here is a close-up of the stitch pattern :

Then I made the inner lining using fabric from my stash. Fortunately, I had zippers and matching fabric for this purse. I put in 6 card slots and a partition for cash in the inner lining to make it even more user-friendly. Here is a look at the insides:

and, a closer look at the fabric I used. Its actually a fabric meant for men's shirts..and, so it was pretty expensive. But, I liked the design, so I bought a few metres of it..

I am in love with this clutch and its an FO after a long time for me. I am glad to know that I still have the creative bone in me. I hope my friend likes it too and gets good use of it. :-)

Note: This irregular blog will continue to be irregular till we get settled in Bangalore. I hope to be back with an update here once things have settled at the home-front. See you all from Bangalore.

Till then, take care and be safe.

  4. Oooh, that is so pretty !!! Your friend is a very lucky person to have a generous knitter as a friend :-D
Especially one smart enough to sew in pockets for cards and separators for cash - that's the more important must-have in my purse/wallet shopping criteria !!

  7. That clutch is so lovely! Good luck relocating, moving is stressful enough if you're moving to the other side of town let alone another country! Packing away craft supplies before moving, one of the hardest things!
