Can I call myself a designer?

I've always thought that I am a good follower of a pattern, no questions asked.Give me any knitting pattern and I will fearlessly tackle it(although I must admit to my mortal fear of knitting anything that has to fit!). But, creating a design..I never dreamed of it. why create a pattern when there are so many to follow?! So, I have no idea what happened to the 'old' knottygal..because, one lazy Sunday afternoon, she picked up a pencil and charted a design that came to her mind. It took her an hour to perfect the pattern and find the design she liked..That is how I created my first ever knit design! Guys, I designed this scarf and I am thrilled to offer it as a free pattern.

Its a easy-peasy pattern which is perfect for a knitter looking for an introduction into lace knitting. It uses simple knit and purl stitches along with yarn overs, k2tog and ssk. The instructions are both written and charted. So, if you want to try knitting with charts for the first time, this is perfect for you.

The scarf curls as its based on stockinette stitch but, blocking goes a long way in reducing the curling. So, preferably yarn with natural fiber is good. If you are using acrylic yarn, you might have to 'kill' the acrylic yarn to avoid curling.

Since its a scarf, use any yarn of your choice and the suggested needles. If you use needles larger than the suggested ones, you will get a larger and lacier scarf. Here is a link to the pattern in the Ravelry library: Zig and Zag Lace scarf Click on the images to download the pattern or go to the Ravelry library link to save it to your Ravelry library. Hope you like my first design. :-)

Peace and love,
Knottygal
